The 4 Tuned Cities festival
In autumn and winter 2010, 4 Tuned Cities - a brand-new independent film and visual arts festival - has hit four cities: Prishtina (Kosov@), Amsterdam (The Netherlands), Sarajevo (Bosnia & Herzegovina) and Skopje (Macedonia).
The organisational and thematic concept of this festival was unique: it was co-programmed by 4 cultural organisations, one from each city, under a common goal.
4 Tuned Cities wants to create conditions for continuous exchange of information and knowledge about new artistic and cultural developments in the Balkans and Western Europe. By exchanging films, artworks, people and stories, we want to make connections, contributing to the enlargement of necessary structural and human capacities for the creation of a common European cultural capital.
With this goal in mind, in 2008 four cultural organisations Lokomotiva, Dit’ e Nat, Kriterion Sarajevo and Balkan Buro gathered as a cross border team that worked together intensively to present each cities’ audiences with a multidisciplinary alternative cultural programme, lasting four days.
The film programme was compiled from each cities’ film networks, and an exhibition presented each cities’ most contemporary visual artists. 4 Tuned Cities also invited young artists and cultural operators to engage in discussions, public actions and networking, and every day progressive international musicians and sound performers were staged.
We reached, connected and inspiredartists, filmmakers, cultural workers, people with a passion for alternative culture, and anybody curious for something different. A new, provocative, open and engaged festival took these cities by surprise.
